Lucas Terrier Club Show
2nd October 2005
Judge: Miss Elisabeth Matell (Cracknor)
CRITIQUE
Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1st Frost's Falstaff, 13 week-old most promising puppy. Good strong bone, head and jaws. Sturdy body, good movement for age, friendly temperament, showing happily.
2nd Frost's Maverick, another promising puppy, lovely head, good body, strong bone, excellent free movement when he felt like going round the ring.
Puppy Dog (1)
1st Hopkirk's Barney, nearly 7 months, very nice sturdy red puppy, lovely head with beautiful strong teeth, a little loose in elbows, sturdy hindquarters, excellent bone and coat quality, free mover.
Junior Dog (6)
1st Frost's Harry Stockley, red dog and very typical head and good bite, looked slightly long, needs to body up and shorten with age, topline would look better if coat tidied up, moved well.
2nd Colville's Luca, very cocky blue and tan, very full of himself, a little quarrelsome, gay tail, slightly on the leg but otherwise very typical with excellent body and typical head.
Novice Dog (7)
1st & Reserve Best Dog Frost's Friskie, red compact dog of good breed type, attractive head, good body and topline, low to ground, excellent coat, needs more ring training but moves well intermittently.
2nd Rodwell's Archie, rangier dog of excellent type, typical in all respects, good outline, showed and moved well but I preferred the sturdier build of winner.
Open Dog (4)
1st Rodwell's J.R., showy white and tan, lovely head and body, showed and moved well, digging front and slightly low tail but attractive dog overall.
2nd Frost's Rambo Dancer, red of quite good type, sturdy build, good coat, moved quite well, happy chap.
Veteran Dog (7)
1st & Best Dog, Best Veteran, Best In Show & Best of Winners Thomas' The Tank Engine, attractive well moving black and tan, lovely type, head, body and outline, moves beautifully, really stylish little stallion.
2nd Colville's Monte, unfortunately clipped but lovely typey red dog, nice outline and movement, would have looked even nicer with correct coat.
Minor Puppy Bitch (4)
1st & Reserve Best Puppy Frost's Fantail, lovely white baby, excellent outline and free movement, very promising, well trained for the show ring, has all the right bits in the right places.
2nd Frost's Faithful, lovely red puppy, sturdy but feminine, excellent outline, well made, when show trained should go places.
Puppy Bitch (5)
1st & Best Puppy, Chillingworth's Christmas Cracker, feminine red puppy of excellent type, sturdy, alert and workmanlike. Good body and outline, free easy movement, in fact one of the best movers so far.
2nd Townsend's Magic Lantern, nice puppy who could have a better coat, otherwise very typical, stands and moves well.
Junior Bitch (8)
1st & Best Bitch & Reserve Best in Show Frost's Mistletoe, lovely, lovely bitch of excellent type, to me she lookes exactly as a true Lucas terrier should, still young so needs to body up a little. Strong but not coarse head, excellent neck, topline and overall outline. Sturdy, well angulated hindquarters, good bone, moves very well. Was a little tired at the end of the day so lost in the final to the dog.
2nd Peat's Gypsy Rose, very typey but not always co-operative. Very good head, overall build and movement. Nicely handled by her young owner.
Novice Bitch (5)
1st Chillingworth's Bella, feminine red bitch, well put together and moves well, lovely but very short coat which makes her look a little streamlined.
2nd Rodwell's Tiggy, well balanced but rather masculine bitch with lovely make and shape, so well put together, head a bit heavy but all things are in the right place.
Open Bitch (7)
1st & Reserve Best Bitch Frost's Martha, lovely bitch of true Lucas type, excellent head and outline, good bone, sturdy hindquarters, moves very well.
2nd Hoyer-Millar's Toil BFB, attractive, feminine bitch, moved and showed quite well but would like a bit more 'oomph' and determination.
Veteran Bitch (5)
1st & Reserve Best Veteran Frost's Tango Bolero, well made b/t, beautifully balanced with excellent topline, moved very well, especially behind. Well handled by a young man.
2nd Thomas' Ginger Rogers, rangier bitch of good type, not as good a topline or hindquarters as winner but a very nice bitch, very typical of the breed.
Winners Dog (5)
1st & Reserve Best of Winners Thomas' Buster Keaton, sturdy b/t, well made and masculine, very strong head, excellent size and topline, best mover in class.
2nd Frost's Boris Sir Archie, very typical red, well made and well balanced in every way, unfortunately moved close behind and a bit restricted, but a very attractive dog.
Winners Bitch (2)
1st Frost's Gertrude Lawrence, Lovely, very typical bitch, not in the best of coat but otherwise looking really nice. Well balanced, moving well, topline could have been better (too much hair just in front of tail).
2nd Thomas' Coffee Bean, such a pity she hates every second of her stint in the ring! Well balanced and very typical with lovely harsh coat. Dam of several of today's winners so she feels she has done her bit.
